Ingredients

Dough
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour a sturdy base for your pastries.
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt enhances the overall flavor of the dough.
  • 0.25 cup granulated sugar adds a hint of sweetness to balance the spices.
  • 0.5 cup unsalted butter, softened gives a rich, flaky texture to the pastries.
  • 0.5 cup sour cream keeps the dough moist and adds a tangy flavor.
  • 1 large egg acts as a binder for the dough for better structure.
Filling
  • 0.25 cup brown sugar contributes a deep caramel flavor that pairs beautifully with cinnamon.
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon the star spice that gives these pastries their warm, festive flavor.
  • 0.25 cup chopped nuts (optional) add a delightful crunch to every bite.
Glaze

Method

Making the Pastries
  1. In a bowl, combine the flour, salt, and granulated sugar. Whisk until well blended.
  2. In a separate bowl, beat the softened butter until creamy.
  3. Add the sour cream and egg to the butter mixture. Beat until smooth and well incorporated.
  4. Gradually mix in the dry ingredients until a soft dough forms. Knead gently just until combined.
  5. In another bowl, mix the brown sugar, ground cinnamon, and chopped nuts (if using).
  6. On a lightly floured surface, roll out the dough to about 1/4 inch thick. Cut into triangles or tree shapes.
  7. Sprinkle a generous amount of the cinnamon filling on half of each triangle. Fold the other half over and press the edges to seal securely.
  8. Place the pastries on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake at 375°F (190°C) for 15-18 minutes.
  9. Whisk together powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth for the glaze.
  10. Once the pastries are out and cooled slightly, drizzle the glaze over the top. Let it set for a few minutes before serving.
