How to Make French Onion Soup Pasta
- In a large skillet over medium heat, melt 4 tablespoons of unsalted butter.
- Add 3 medium sliced sweet yellow onions. Sauté for about 20 minutes until they are soft and caramelized.
- Toss in 2 minced garlic cloves and 2 teaspoons of fresh thyme. Cook for an additional minute until fragrant.
- Pour in 4 cups of low-sodium beef broth. Bring to a simmer.
- In a separate pot, cook 8 oz of fettuccine or penne pasta until al dente. Drain without rinsing.
- Gently fold the cooked pasta into the onion mixture in the skillet.
- Top the pasta with 1 cup of shredded Gruyère cheese. Cover the skillet briefly to melt the cheese.
