Ingredients

For the Shrimp
  • 1 lb shrimp, peeled and deveined Fresh shrimp provide the best flavor; you can use frozen shrimp if thawed properly.
For the Marinade
  • 1/4 cup honey This adds a delightful sweetness; maple syrup makes a good substitute for a different flavor profile.
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced Garlic brings warmth and depth; feel free to add more for an extra kick.
  • 1/4 cup low-sodium soy sauce For a savory touch, low-sodium is best for a balanced flavor; tamari works if you’re gluten-free.
  • 2 stalks green onions, sliced Use chives as a milder alternative.
For Serving
  • 2 cups cooked rice (white or brown) Serve over rice for a hearty meal; quinoa is a great alternative for added protein.

Equipment

  • skillet
  • Mixing bowl

Method

Instructions
  1. Prepare ingredients: Start by peeling and deveining the shrimp. Chop the garlic and slice the green onions, ensuring everything is ready for a smooth cooking process.
  2. Mix marinade: In a mixing bowl, blend the honey, soy sauce, minced garlic, and half of the sliced green onions. Add the shrimp, letting them marinate for 15 minutes to absorb all those wonderful flavors.
  3. Cook shrimp: Heat a skillet over medium-high heat and add a splash of oil. Cook the marinated shrimp for 2-3 minutes on each side until they turn pink and opaque.
  4. Thicken sauce: Pour the leftover marinade into the skillet and let it simmer for 1-2 minutes until it thickens.
  5. Serve: Spoon the shrimp mixture over the cooked rice, drizzle with the extra sauce, and garnish with the remaining green onions.
