How to Make Scalloped Sweet Potatoes
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Peel and thinly slice the sweet potatoes to about 1/8 inch thick.
  3. In a greased baking dish, layer half of the sweet potato slices at the bottom and sprinkle with salt.
  4. In a saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter and stir in the flour to create a roux.
  5. Gradually whisk in the heavy cream and cook until thickened.
  6. Add garlic powder, onion powder, and black pepper, mixing well.
  7. Pour half of the creamy sauce over the first layer of sweet potatoes.
  8. Add the remaining sweet potato slices on top and pour the remaining sauce evenly over them.
  9. Top with shredded cheese and breadcrumbs.
  10. Cover with foil and bake for 25 minutes, then remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes.
  11. Allow the dish to rest for 5-10 minutes before serving.
