How to Make Scalloped Sweet Potatoes
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Peel and thinly slice the sweet potatoes to about 1/8 inch thick.
- In a greased baking dish, layer half of the sweet potato slices at the bottom and sprinkle with salt.
- In a saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter and stir in the flour to create a roux.
- Gradually whisk in the heavy cream and cook until thickened.
- Add garlic powder, onion powder, and black pepper, mixing well.
- Pour half of the creamy sauce over the first layer of sweet potatoes.
- Add the remaining sweet potato slices on top and pour the remaining sauce evenly over them.
- Top with shredded cheese and breadcrumbs.
- Cover with foil and bake for 25 minutes, then remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes.
- Allow the dish to rest for 5-10 minutes before serving.
